The Campaign for Women

Samaritan Center of Puget Sound's Campaign for Women raises awareness and funds to support the women who use our services.

2008 Women's Event Luncheon is not yet schedule, check back for a date and speaker.

What is the Campaign for Women?

Women often come to Samaritan seeking help when they are depressed, struggling with the trauma of an abusive relationship, experiencing the pain of divorce or separation, or picking up the pieces after the loss of a loved one. Often these women have extremely limited incomes, making even our fee-adjusted services financially out of reach. Some of these women have nowhere else to turn for support and hope.

Because of their commitment to serve women in need, our Board of Directors established the Campaign for Women. The Campaign invites women in the community to come together and give to a fund that makes counseling affordable for very low-income women.

How does the Campaign work?

The cornerstone of the Campaign is its Honorary Committee. Everyone is invited to the luncheon and asked to make a significant donation to the Women's Fund. Funds contributed to the Campaign allow women in need to receive counseling for as little as a few dollars a session.

Who is involved in the Campaign?

Women from all walks of life and many different Christian denominations have joined together to help women in need. As an Ecumenical Christian counseling center our campaign attracts women as diverse and unique as the women they seek to help.

For more information or to join the Campaign, contact us at (206) 527-2266.

Who is helped by the Campaign?

The money raised by the Campaign ensures that women with extremely limited incomes are able to receive counseling. Most of these women's annual incomes fall below $15,000. For many of these women, the counseling they find at Samaritan is the only help and encouragement they receive during difficult times. Women served by the Samaritan Campaign come from diverse communities in our central Puget Sound service area.

The Campaign is geared toward women because:

  • More women than men report suffering from depression
  • Women are usually more financially devastated by divorce
  • Women are more often victims of physical, sexual and emotional abuse
  • Women are often raised to believe that their needs come second

Women's Fund Luncheon

The 2007 Women’s Fund luncheon was a huge success.

The keynote speaker was Rev. Jane Vennardwhose topic was “ The Healing Power of Prayer" . The event and donations which came in before and after the lunch from individuals who could not attend raised over $37,000 to help women and their families in time of great need.

We want to thank Park Shore Retirment Commuinity for their generous donation to help offset the costs of the event. Thank you.
